A long running joke on Jimmy Kimmel is that Matt Damon doesn't get to appear on the show so it was interesting to see Matt Damon make it onto the Late Late Show on CBS with James Corden to promote his movie The Martian.
The Martian is based upon a book written by Andy Weir. Damon explained that the movie was based upon the book after a clip from the movie was shown. As he explained it, Weir had thought about how a man would survive on the planet , but screenplay writers take over to turn this into another exciting Hollywood flick.
There is no doubt in my mind that both Everest and The Martian are somehow or other directed right at me. I won't explain at this time but I just learned more specifically why I think that the Martian is for sure.
But I will say this much about it. Years ago on my grandparents farm in Northwestern Ohio, I learned how to plant potatoes. I learned to cut them into pieces, and to plant them in the dirt in my grandmother's garden back of her house. I can see rows and rows of potatoes growing there, and I was so happy and proud to pull up potato plants which held fresh new born potatoes in the roots. I also loved the grape arbors which were on my granddad's back porch. I absolutely love concord grapes, so sweet. I would put each grape in my mouth, drawing the inside out from the skin, and suck the skin dry before throwing it out.
Memories I have of growing on a farm, picking eggs out from under a pecking hen's beak, and playing with the puppies in the front lawn. Looking back, it sounds as though I had a great life then. But it was lonely. I loved the dogs, played dead with them, so that they would run up to me, and check to see if I was all right.
My grandmother had a piano, so I learned to finger the piano, never really mastering it ever. I eventually learned to read notes...
Hey Wait. I was talking about the Martian.
It was published in hardcover on my birthday I see. Because my number came up pointedly in one part of the movie after the potato scenes refreshed my memory of my childhood, I knew this movie was meant for me. I know the real reason for this...It probably does go back to when I visited the Cape Canaveral space center years ago in Florida, and probably also, because I have been into esp experiments, mental telepathy, electronic wiring, and what ever.
Yes, the movie is about the space program, NASA, JPL, and an imaginary story of what happens to an astronaut if he is left alone to survive on a hostile planet such as Mars. On that note I will say that Mexicans who try to cross over the desert in Arizona in the summertime can not survive so why think that even a highly skilled and well trained astronaut can survive on his own the harsh climate of Mars. I ask ya.
Yes, I went to see the movie on the very day that the news media is discussing another mass murder that happens all too often in this gun happy nation. While I do not identify with MW ( could that be that they left the B off so that it is a BMW?) to think that the whole world is listening to everything I say, I might begin to think that after awhile. I chose rather to think that I was meant to think that maybe it is more like the planet Mars that I can think that this book or movie is intended to make me realize.
I do cuss and swear I admit. It is one of the things that I liked best was to think that these were people with whom I could like. Granted, when I was a paid English teacher, I would say "Watch your language" and discouraged cursing and swearing in the classroom. I grew up learning how to cuss and swear very easily, and have found only a few who can even swear harder and wore than I can.
So I relaxed a lot in the movie because I have been doing a lot of that lately.
A movie after my own heart, as I say.
Well, so the Martian is a thriller, suspenseful, and full of Hollywood drama and special effects.
The reality is that it is only another piece of celluloid, that Matt Damon does a great job of keeping people interested in his survival tactics, that Jeff Daniels acts like the prick that he is supposed to be, and that the women in the film finally make Sally Ride look heroic to those of us who remember her.
See the film in 3-D. It is the only way it will satisfy your desire to know. It is a great study in friendship and camaraderie! I loved the fact that China plays a big role in this film. Good flick!

Try Something Positive Now
I have nearly booked a trip to France to take a river cruises from Paris to Rouen and back to Paris for the December holiday season. I would need $5,000 to make this trip but so far I have not managed to win it through the game of horse racing, and it is the only game that I can hope would pay me that. I had had a chance Saturday that if I would have thought of a jockey instead of studying only horses I might have done it. But I sat it out and three of my four horses did come in. But I did not pick the winner who was a longshot that I did not consider. Good thing I did not bet it but if only I had seen it I might have done it.

Brother Sun, Sister Moon
The story of St. Francis of Assisi has been filmed and entitled Brother Sun, Sister Moon.
Tonight, while watching Pope Francis who has taken his name from the saint I looked outside to see the full moon rising in the northeast of where I am located. It was so beautiful, gold in appearance, and made me think of St. Clare, who is the Sister Moon. Brother Sun is for Francis of Assisi who is famous for his prayers and gentle way.
How strange I thought that the location made me think of the UFO sighting near Fenton, Mi. years ago. It was Oct.26,1975, the year of the woman, to be exact. Here it is exact day, September 26, 2015, that the full moon is rising in nearly the same position that that UfO had made its appearance. Many differences of course. The sun is stationery as is the moon so that neither can suddenly zoom up close from being a speck in the distance to a full blown flying object hovering overhead.
The supermoon phenomena will occur tomorrow night on the 27 with the sun eclipsing it. At least now I know where to look to see if I can spot it. By that time, all the fervor and excitement of the Pope may be ending as well.
How strange this coincides with the Family Interdenominational meeting taking place in the City of Brotherly Love because Holy Family is the church I always associated the UFO with, but I always think of Peter and Jesus walking on water. You, of so little faith, Jesus said to Peter. The church of the Holy Family had a photo on a church calendar showing Jesus pulling Peter out of the water.
I think of it as a floating church as well. The floating faith. Jesus is the groom and the church is the bride. Two become one! I think of Sacre Coeur in Montmartre as well, and so made a point to see that famous site. Jesus envelopes us all in his embrace whether we know it or not. Trust in it. Relax in it, and enjoy it. Filled with the Holy Ghost is God's way of being free.

One heck of a week
If I start a new blog,, I will turn it into a focused single topic only, but for the time being this has been a bit of a journal style blog. I use it more than the other one because it is more easily accessible to me.
This has been one of the worst weeks ever. I will explain totally. I need to let it out of my system without the typical verbal sympathies accompanied with explaining away to a living person.
My old neighbor Sandra who has always tried to be a friend to me at times, but seems to only use me when I am needed for something, has come back into my life. Because she has been a good friend in the past, and has seen me through hard times, I feel I owe it to her to help her whenever I can.
But this proved to be too much for both of us after I told her she was welcome to bring her son to stay with me a few days to see how we could endure it.
Her son is a mental case now, and we quickly learned that we could not endure it so that she has come and gone after spending two nights here to find a motel where she and her son can have more privacy and live in their own lifestyle. I am a night owl, and she is an early to bed, early to rise person, so that essentially we are incompatible that way.
But the son is a bipolar personality and is having problems, needs meds, and probably at this point in his life, has had too much time spent with his mother. They both need to get away from one another for awhile but they cannot since he has a date with the law since having had a bout with the law so that he is in his mother's custody. Not a good idea at all.
I tried to be as welcoming as I could, but I did have to assert a few things here and there so as not to be totally taken advantage of, and eventually, it was too much so that Sandra had to leave her food that she had bought here until she could retrieve it later. Finally, yesterday she did get all her food out except for one diet coke which I am saving for her.
I will close on the topic now. It is a sticky icky issue with me.

Too Much
Everything is too much any more. Just listening to the news is so overwhelming that one can only wonder at what is going on in this world today.
One of the more ridiculous stories is about a woman in Kentucky who won't follow the law by letting gay men or gay women marriage licenses. She uses her religious faith as an excuse to explain her odd behavior. Since she has become a recent convert to the Apostolic faith, I roll my eyes at the very thought. Simply because this story is about conflict between the constitution and religious beliefs, I do not want to dwell on it and have no sympathy for her at all.
But she had supporters giving her cheers when she emerged from a stay in jail today. OMG I am shaking my head.
Then the world is caving in due to a crisis in Syria and naturally each and every nation in the world that has had a finger in the pie in this one is being blamed for the mass exodus of refugees from Syria who are trying to find a home somewhere in the world that will have them. And the world is skeptical and pretty much cold about it. A few bleeding hearts who offer hope and sympathy, but more basically sound thinking who wonder where will they go amidst all the other homeless people trying to get help in those same lands. It is a really bad situation realistically, but muddling government officials and silly pros and cons on both sides by the citizens is making it all worse.
The presidential election is sillier than ever what with the non politicians being better liked than the politicians in the polls. People apparently want someone who speaks out about all the problems at home instead of being so politically correct and doing nothing about any of the events making people angry.
So anger and frustration is making Donald Trump the leading candidate in the Republican games at the moment. One wonders if this will last or if it is a summer fling. Sanders and Biden are starting to go up in the polls while Clinton goes down. She has an email problem with servers to give her nightmares. But she sobs that she wants to help women like her mother in an interview with David Weir tonight that aired on ABC. Oh, my God. She actually had tears in her eyes about how she wants to help women. Her track record in her own personal life is so sorry that one can only wonder at how she could be an asset to women's needs and aspirations.
After all, she rode into power on her husband's soiled shirt tails. Had it not been for Monica, NY might not have had a sympathetic vote for Hillary. Tells me something about the voters in NY.
If all this is not too much, I don't know what is. Too much to hope that voters will get really smart enough to vote for the right people in elections. Too much to hope that the Middle East will ever settle down. Too much to hope that people will stop interpreting scripture to mean what they want it to mean instead of what it is intended to mean.
So it goes.
