The Whistleblower

The Whistleblower is a nervewracking story which probably might remind one of the scandal involving the Navy in Las Vegas, the Tailgate party or some such thing...I have forgotten and did not research details before going into this discussion so will have to check it out.  There had been a scandal about some military group a few years back with a party in Vegas.  There are tons of stories about scandals and sex parties in most military barracks.  I have even known air force personnel myself personally to know that these stories are true even here in Arizona in the good old USA. But there is a difference between going out, meeting women in bars, or clubs, and taking them home to screw than in kidnapping, holding girls as prisoners, and then using them as prostitutes for their own sick games.  In America, women throw themselves easily at soldier boys hoping to get a tumble whether for money or for free, but in Bosnia, where this story is discovered, the girls had been lured out of the Ukraine to become forced to serve as sex slaves for men who were not only American, Europeans, Serbs, Croats, etc., but also for others serving in the role of peace officers.  It has been reported so often about how UN personnel in Africa have raped and pillaged young girls there that most have turned a blind eye to it.

This movie outraged me, since the drama is well plotted, well manipulated and controlled to make you suffer with anger at the plight of young girls who go out into the world to survive on their own, to be used and threatened and tortured by men from all parts of the world. It made me ashamed of the United Nations and the United States government.

The end of the movie is the most disturbing.  The heroine of the story suffers due to her interference, her dedication to her job as a good police woman, and finally loses in the end because she has done the impardonable, the good deed.   She is a whistleblower treading on men's habits and activity so that she is soon out of a job and a future for herself.  The men in the story are despicable and easily disliked, looking and acting like so many real life villains, no matter whether a 17 year old kid who recently abducted and raped a young ten year old girl in Colorado, and then killed and dismembered her.  These men do the same to these young women who are unable to defend themselves. There is literally no difference between the ugliness of one from the other.  Both are horrendous acts against women and girls.

A young girl from the Ukraine is the center of the plot along with her friend who unwisely encourged her to leave home to join this group of sorry young girls.  The girl makes a fatal mistake so like our ten year old in Colorado, she suffers both physical and mental abuse before she is finally killed.

It is a sad and sick story which is a real sick and dangerous problem to women everywhere.  After I saw it, I was reminded of the many young Mexican girls who are forced to be prostitutes in huts at the border towns where even Texas congressmen have admitted to frequenting as some kind of ritual.  I have even participated in observing those activities myself when I first came to Arizona years ago and only in my early 20's. I wondered at men who like to use young girls and pay for them as many in the great Southwest do.

These stories are right under our nose. It is wrong if we do not try to understand and help when needed.
