Book Review: Kill Bin Laden

I went to the library to pick up Lion of Cairo, a book written by Scott Oden, and while there and browsing around new books, I found a book written by John Weisman called Kill Bin Laden. I picked it up to read the fictional account of a true story. The fiction is pretty obvious and most of it is probably giving real life characters false names. One recognizes Hillary Clinton pretty easily even though in the book she is called Kate. As I understand this entire operation was Lou Panetta's baby from the get go, and so it probably is more about him than anyone else. But it does have a lot of themes to it, one being that the military is always dutiful and professional no matter which party is in power, and no matter who is President (POTUS). I have always been skeptical of this peculiar way in which Osama bin Laden is said to have lived and finally died. It is very difficult to believe that he would allow himself to be holed up in a compound void of communications near a military academy in Pakistan. I do suspect that he did not believe that even the US would attempt to bomb anything so near a military academy and in that respect, it does make sense as a good choice. The book is very exciting to read, very pro the dutiful military units that rarely receive public attention, and also very pronounced in the entire purpose of such an operation to the man in the white house, the president of the usa. It is a feather in his cap which in this case he truly deserves. I have always suspected that Osama is either a CIA agent or a brilliant spy and leader of his militants, but I never gave him the full credit that this book seems to give in terms of all the problems that have beset the USA for many years...including the ship the Cole. Remember that one? But this author credits him with probably more than he deserves in being a pain in the ass in killing Americans abroad in Middle Eastern territories. The simple truth in the end is that the military does not care if the public does or does not believe that this was Osama just so that they know for a fact that it was. They had taken dna samples to prove it and in a case of this kind, were able to have it verified immediately to satisfy everyone for the amount of man hours, time, money, equipment, and expense that all this took on a nation and its people. If, as some may suspect, this was a political maneuver to make Barack Obama look good, then this book fulfills that purpose. It does make Barack Obama look good. I suspect that Osama bin Laden may have been happy to finally see his own matyrdom come to him at last, as that is his way to his end goal. Now I wonder how his wives are being treated since they have left Pakistan for Saudia Arabia. Their treatment would tell us a lot about the Arab world and their view of Osama bin Laden imho.
