Chip Albright, Adventurer

A classmate, Linda Poling HOffman, sent me an email about a blog being printed in the local hometown newspaper, Van Wert Times Bulletin, by Chip Albright. Chip has his own website which is as interesting as his blog on the Times Bulletin. You can read either at ChipAlbright.org or TimesBulletin.com. Go to blog and find Chip Albright and read his travel blog.

He is riding a bicycle solo from the tip of South America to Alaska, and his last entry was about a harrowing ride in Mexico where he has tire trouble, has to have his bike repaired, and had to hitchhike with a wild crazy Mexican driver. He promises never to do that stunt again, but he ends up near the place where drug cartells had murdered some group of men and had them decapitated. It had made headlines in the Mexican newspapers near where he was staying. It made quite an impression on me.

I really believe that some form of al qaeda has infiltrated Mexico. Beheadings sounds so like them that it is extremely troublesome to read about these horror stories going on across the border, especially, when they are reaching into the USA at an alarming rate as well.

Anyway, Chip is a young man living out a fantasy and doing well at it. It is incredible to think that someone would venture out on a bicycle to travel through the Americas. He is from my hometown of Van Wert,Ohio, which makes it more interesting to those of us who are so secure in our lush life of convenience and easy living. Someone actually has the nerve to do this. Wow!
